Juggling All the Pieces: Project Management for Beginners
Workshop Leader: Sharon Leon, Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, GMU
Scoping and overseeing projects with many moving parts can be challenging for first-time or new project managers. During this project management workshop for beginners, participants will learn strategies for successful management in several key areas: time and cost estimating, creating and following a realistic work plan, managing personnel and team dynamics, tracking budgets and deliverables, working within institutional constraints and guidelines, and reporting on project progress. Instruction will begin with an overview from Leon that will situate the focus for the session. Then, participants will review targeted case studies, experiment with tools and systems that support project management, and examine sample planning documents (deliverable descriptions, team organization charts, work plans, budget projections, etc.).
